1950s

Phil Saunders at Owens-Illinois

After graduating from Purdue University, Phil Saunders is employed by Owens-Illinois as a young industrial engineer. He is put in charge of making printing plates and inks for the corrugated packaging division.

1960

Phil and Alice Saunders open Container Graphics Corp in Toledo Ohio

On Halloween Day, 1960, Container Graphics opened for business as a flexographic and letterpress printing plate manufacturer.

1965

Container Graphics expands into rotary cutting dies

CGC was an early entrant in the emerging technology of rotary diecutting. We built some of the first rotary dies for new rotary diecutters installed in the US.

1970s and 1980s

Container Graphics rapidly expands across the country

CGC quickly developed expertise in the manufacture of steel rule cutting dies and innovations in flexographic printing plates. Manufacturing locations grew to over 15 sites across North America.

1978 and 1979

CGC begins journey in industry leadership

Phil Saunders was a founding member of the Diemakers and Diecutters Association and received its "Diemaker of the Year" award in 1978. Phil went on to lead the Corrugated Containers Division of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry in 1979. He was recognized in 1991 as a TAPPI "Fellow".

1992

Neil Saunders appointed president of CGC

Neil Saunders, son of the founders, was promoted to President of the company in 1992. Neil lead the company through a number of acquisition and expansion initiatives.

2010

CGC reaches 50 years in business

CGC arrives at 50 year anniversary with over 400 associates serving the corrugated packaging industry across North America with services extending around the world.

2022

Graham Saunders appointed President of CGC

Graham Saunders, grandson of our founders, is promoted to President of the company. Graham has been leading the company through modernization of operating systems as well as expansion in new markets.
